happy 2 week anniversary

So I've been in GA for two full weeks now.  Jason and Stephanie do nothing, go nowhere, and are horrible homebodies.  Ok, so they do go places but it's like to Costco, and they do do things but it's like keep the house clean and the yard looking good and play with the dog.  Let's just say they definitely have their domestic-couple-ness down and not much is going to move them from that pattern.  I wasn't quite aware of how UNwilling to do things they are until this weekend.  Take for instance exciting opportunity #1:  The Waffle House Museum in Decatur, GA.  It's only open ONE day a month, and only for three hours.  And, it's 100% free.  Did they wanna go? Noooooooooooooooooooooooo.....  So I went by myself =)

This museum is located in the first ever Waffle House (built in 1955).  The restaurant is set up to look how it did back then, and on the left is a little museum room with actual facts and memorabilia about Waffle House.

One day the Waffle House ran out out Filets and went to the local A&P and got T-bones instead.  Filet Mignon was never served in a Waffle House since.  Also, eggs were kept out on shelves back then;  they didn't need refrigerated.  $64,000 question:  Why didn't eggs need refrigerated back then but they do now?

Perhaps waitressing at the Waffle House should be in my future?  I look REALLY good in the uniform, don't you think? (You can always click on any of the pictures to enlarge them)  This last picture is with me and the two original owners.  They are 91 and 92 today and still go in to work =)  Why yes I am wearing an "I love Waffle House" button!

Exciting Opportunity #2:  I've had two different people tell me to check out PURE Taqueria which is a fairly new Mexican place located in downtown Woodstock where there is a roof-top bar/patio and live music is performed.  Jason and Stephanie have never been there so I asked them if they wanted to go.  I even offered to PAY!  They still said no!  At this point it is very obvious that I'm on my own down here, and if I don't do something about it, I'm going to be forced to watch episode after episode of Deadwood, Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, Top Chef, and a whole slew of home improvement shows for the rest of my time down here.

Luckily, I came across this website one night called http://www.meetup.com/.  You can type in your city or zip code and a bunch of different meet-up groups exist.  There's like meet up groups for scrabble players, crocheting, pole dancers, singles, moms, tennis players, book clubs, church goers, the list goes on and on of anything and everything you can think of.  I checked out the zip code for Mishawaka/South Bend and there weren't a lot of meet up groups, but there were some.  Check it out!  Anyway, I joined a couple meet up groups by simply clicking on the "join" button on the page.  There ended up being an impromptu event last night at Jersey's which is a sports bar and grill in Woodstock.  It's from the meet up group "575 Singles" which basically means anyone single who lives in the suburbs of Atlanta (I-575).  Events happen all around the area and this one just happened to actually be in Woodstock.  Exciting Opportunity #3:  "Stephanie and Jason come to Jersey's with me!"  "No!" So I decided to go by myself, after role playing all the different scenarios Jason and Stephanie should do if I never return to be seen again.

I drove there and then sat in the parking lot for 5 minutes trying to talk myself into actually going in.  I thought, "There is no way I'm going into a place I've never been, to meet up with people I don't know!  People will be staring at me, laughing, and pointing.  And what if I go up to the wrong table?!  OMG!"  However, I decided my new motto is "Do it for the blog!" because even if it turns out disastrous, at least I will have good material to write about in my blog =)  So I drove to a different parking spot, got out like I had just arrived, and walked in.

I found the table easily; there were four males and one female there.  The one female there is LARGE, like perhaps 6'5", has very pale skin, and has on bright red lipstick.  All the men were in their mid 40s, which is fine.  I didn't go to find the love of my life, (duh I have eHarmony for that!) I just went to make friends. Everyone was very receptive to me, very friendly and sociable.  Later on, more people joined and we ended up with about 15 people total.  The night was rather uneventful except a few occasions.  I asked the original girl who was there if she was a smoker and she said no but that she'd go outside with me.  When we got outside I asked her if she'd ever been married.  She said "Yeah, I'm queer.  I was married to a woman for four years.  I date women.  What's your story?"  When I told her I was in a very unhealthy relationship with a guy for 8 years, she said "Don't you just feel like the only people you're attracted to are people who CAN'T function in society?  And people who can function in society are SOOOOO boring?" haha my new bff =)

Later in the night this other woman asked me if I want to go on a cruise with her September 20.  Apparently about 40 people from this 575 Singles group are all going on a Royal Carribbean Cruise for 4 days.  This lady's son who is 18 was supposed to go but he can't now, she's already paid for his ticket, and needs to find someone to fill the spot.  Hmm....something I am very seriously considering.  If the offer is presented, why shouldn't I take it?????

*Disclaimer:  In an effort to LITERALLY not bite the hand that feeds me, I did have both Stephanie and Jason proofread this blog prior to posting just in case what I think is really really funny, is not funny to them.  I was granted their blessings =)
